Policy of...
1. Excellence: Be conscientious in class. Strive to do work you can be proud of. Work up to the highest level of your capabilities. Don't settle for anything less.
Back to top
2. Preparation:
Be prepared for each class. Preparation includes bringing the appropriate material, completing work on time, and being responsible for completing any work you miss. If
you're absent, it is YOUR responsibility to keep up with what is going on in class. (See number 5C below.) If you work part time (or even full-time), remember that
you're a student first. Having to work is NO EXCUSE for not having time to do school work.

3. Conduct:
While in class, conduct yourself properly in words, actions, and dress. Good behavior is expected, of course, on those occasions when we have class in other locations.
This conduct includes academic honesty in the sharing of information
and the proper documenting of source material. As seniors, you
should be aware of what actions constitute plagiarism.

4. Discipline:
It's been my experience that Seniors usually behave well and rarely need
more than a warning.

5. Make-up Work For Excused Absences:
- You have 5 school days (not 5 days of English) to arrange to make up work you missed during an EXCUSED absence. This board policy concerns only
work that requires out-of-class make-up. Assignments that can be made up during regular class time DO NOT come under this policy because these
make-ups are part of regular class activity.
- It is YOUR responsibility to schedule makeup work. In most cases make-up tests will be more difficult than the original work because you will have had
the opportunity to be better prepared.
- For missed class work and/or homework: call a classmate for assignments, OR come on the day between classes to get the assignment from me, OR call the school
and leave a message for me. I will call your home and leave your assignments. When you return, you are expected to have completed the missed work as well as the
work due the day you return.
REMEMBER: For Unexcused Absences, all class work, homework, and tests receive a 0 (zero).

6. Penalty for Late Work:
Assignments are due when called for during class. Assignments turned in after this time are late and receive the following penalties: up to one week late: 10 point
reduction in grade; more than one week, a zero. If you are absent on the last day of the late period, you do not get an extra day.

7. Needs for Class Each Day:
- a separate binder for English (or an English section in another binder);
- loose-leaf notebook paper; spiral notebook paper is not acceptable;
- pen (black ink is best, but blue is acceptable); other colors ARE NOT acceptable;
- # 2 pencil (most pencils you encounter will be # 2's)

8. Form for major writing assignments:
These must be turned in according to a particular format. I will give you a copy in class. You are to follow it unless otherwise instructed. All out-of-class essays must be typed or incur a 10-point penalty.

9. Grades:
We have a scale used district-wide.
10. Records for Excused and Unexcused Absences:
It is your responsibility to show me your agenda so that I can record your absence as "excused." In the case of field trips, please have the teacher involved to write a
note in your agenda. I realize that teachers put out memos listing students going on fieldtrips, but sometimes students whose names are on lists are absent. Bring me a
note indicating that you did participate in the activity. The policy concerning make-up work affects absences because of field trips.
