Makeup Policy for...

Your regular attendance is important. I keep careful records and treat absences seriously. An excused absence will not hurt your grade the way an unexcused one will, but absences of any kind are a hindrance to your English education because you miss the day's instruction.

If you have an unexcused absence, you receive a zero for the day's class work. For an excused absence, I will accept the work you missed as long as you have it with you when you return.  You do NOT have 5 days to make up class work and homework.  Remember: it is your responsibility to furnish me with proof of an excused absence.

In addition, you are responsible for keeping up with all lessons. On the day you return to class, you should have the work that was due on the day you missed.

Of course, I will take into consideration extended absences as well as parental notes about the missed work, but you are responsible for completing the work.

Tardies:
On most days we have a brief, oral quiz at the beginning of the period. If your name is called to answer a question and you are not in class to answer, you receive a zero. Therefore, tardies will hurt your grade.

Makeup for class work missed during an excused absence or an excused tardy:
All students are expected to make up all work on time. For example, if you are absent on the class before a test is assigned, I expect you to take the test on the day you return.  If homework was due on the day you were absent, you should have it the day you return.  Of course, I will take into consideration extended absences, parental notes, and (when field trips are involved) notes from teachers. Otherwise, please don't ask for extra time to turn in the make-up writing.
