Masters Project - User preference testing
At a GLISI teacher conference held last fall, I was able to grab 12-14 people to review the competing designs. I did my best to counterbalance the presentation of the interfaces to avoid introducing bias into the results. I set up my laptop in the lobby and asked passing teachers, principals, and school board members to take a few minutes to evaluate these interfaces.
None of these users knew anything about the coaching program, so I tried to assess the ability of the interfaces to provide an overall context, to set up goals, to lead toward next steps, and to provide easy access to help. I let the users freely comment for several minutes, then I began to probe with
What is your best guess of what page you are on in this site?
Where would you click on this page? What information would you expect to find?

Which design gives you a stronger impression of an overall structure?
These are the prototypes I showed them. The last one was the clear favorite.
